Return to Fitness:
Before the pandemic will not be the same as after! Unless you had access to heavy weights, a tricked-out home gym, and some proper programming, that heavy 3RM isn’t going to be there right out the gate. You need to recognize this as we return to the new norm and get back into our gyms. So, what do we do next?
Train Smarter:
We will need to rethink, restore, and rebuild our mind, body, and training. The first few weeks back should focus on our athletic redevelopment. There should a universal understanding that less is more in the first few weeks. This is particularly important regarding intensity, loading, and volume.
We should have the mindset that we are Training Today to Come Back Tomorrow feeling great, not sore and beat up. This means you might have to hold back a bit from your previous top speed and loading. Instead focus on moving well, carefully adding back intensity, and regaining confidence in the movements.
Make sure to follow an intelligently designed program. Warming Up is going to be CRITICALLY IMPORTANT. Your warm-up should raise core temps, transfer skills, and move through a full range of motion.
The program should gradually progress over 3 weeks from less intensity, lighter loads, and slower tempo work, into higher intensity, heavier loads, and faster tempos. This will be key to getting back into the gym safely and effectively!
Ease back into it, the intensity will come but the mechanics and consistency must come first. Be safe, have some fun, and just enjoy the process of getting back. Feel free to contact us if you are interested in getting started and following a structured program just for you.
