THE NEW MINDSET: ESSENTIALISM

With all the craziness in the world right now, we need to do our best to improve our quality of life, not let the current limitations of life and time work against us. Daily routines can help us to keep our sanity during these troubling times. Remember that our daily routines need to serve as a way to improve your lifestyle, NOT hinder it.

Here are some suggestions on getting there:

Start your day with some movement and mobility/Take time to move early and often

  • Breathe, meditate – take 10 mins to get ready for the start of your day

Exercise daily - Limit how long your strength and conditioning workouts last

  • Still train hard – just train smarter (be active every day)

Do some breath work at the end of each session

  • Work on getting back to a parasympathetic state

Get outside for at least 10 mins and feel more grounded daily

  • Walk/Bike/Hike (easy pace) - get that sun and vitamin D

Work on some form of advancement

  • Read/Write/Listen to Podcast (educational, enlightening)

Limit your screen time – turn on the blue light filter by 7 pm each night

  • Stay off the phone 30 mins. to 1 hr. before bed

Take 10 - 20 mins every night to do something for yourself to help to down regulate

  • Ex: read 10 - 20 pages of a book / drink some tea / dim the lights / do breathe work / listen to an Audiobook

In order to optimize your mental, emotional, psychological AND physical well-being, you need to acknowledge that times are changing, and you must change with it. Essentialism isn't about getting more done in less time. It's about getting only the right things done.

Extra Tidbits:

The Parasympathetic State - The parasympathetic nervous system is most beneficial to us because it is the state we ideally want to be in the vast majority of time. This is the state our body recovers in most efficiently due to the relaxed state and increased absorption/digestion of nutrients. Click here to read more about the PNS.
